Can an E-Series array have Dynamic Disk Pools and traditional volume groups at the same time?
Applies to
NetApp E-Series
Answer
- Yes, an E-Series array can have both Dynamic Disk Pools (DDPs) and traditional volume groups at the same time.
- Keep in mind that a DDP requires a minimum of 11 drives.
- For traditional volume groups, the minimum required drive count depends on the RAID level.
Examples:
- With an E2860 (60-drive array), you have enough drives for multiple dynamic disk pools and volume groups.
- With an E2812 (12-drive array), you only have enough drives for one DDP and a single drive RAID0 volume group (1 drive with no parity). A DDP and RAID1/5/6 would not fit.
