Answer

  • Microsoft has announced restricted access via EWS to Teams message data beginning January 31, 2023.
  • Teams message data is now supported via Microsoft Graph Teams Export API. Microsoft Graph Export API for Teams chats are protected APIs no longer accessible via SaaS Backup.
  • Access to these APIs must be explicitly obtained by backup administrator by filling out request access form with Microsoft (Request Form)

Additional Information

Microsoft Graph Export API for Teams are available through a paid model (Graph license). Additional steps are needed on the user’s part to gain access to the Graph Export API. SaaS Backup users who wish to back up Teams message data are advised to familiarize themselves with Graph Export API access notes, license and costs involved. 

 Note: The Microsoft Graph Export API for Teams is currently not supported in Microsoft 365 US Government, Germany, and China regions.
