SCO fails the Backup claiming that the ASM disk devices are unsupported

Issue

When setting up a Backup on the discovered Oracle Database, and running it, it fails with the following ERROR messages in the SMCore_<JOB-ID>.log:
 
Activity (Discovering File-System) of Workflow (SnapMgrCoreService.SmJobActivity), Failed with error: PL-SCU-00015: Unable to complete the Discover operation, reason: Internal error null
 
The SPL_<JOB-ID>.log from the job on the Oracle host's side will show:
 
SCU-LOG-00559: The reason for the exception is null.
PL-SCU-00015: Unable to complete the Discover operation, reason: Internal error null
