CXPLAT-1714: SCV backup including VM with name containing 4-byte UTF-8 characters fails

Applies to: All versions of SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware vSphere (SCV)

  • When the resource group has a datastore including a VM with a name containing 4-byte UTF-8 characters, SCV backup fails with error:
    Error: Unable to register backup on SnapCenter Server: An error occurred while saving the entity changes. See the inner exception for details.

  • ProtectionService-<DATE>.log shows error:
    [ERR] [Report] [TID:190] [RID:0HNGQN0ANTSGE:00000001] [CID:] [JID:] Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore.DbUpdateException: An error occurred while saving the entity changes. See the inner exception for details.
     ---> MySqlConnector.MySqlException (0x80004005): Incorrect string value: '\xF0\xA0\xAE\xB7\xE5\xB2...' for column 'ResourceName' at row 1
