Description
Support for vVol Replication was introduced in the Unified Appliance (UA) 9.7.1 release. vVol Replication allows you to protect vVol datastores using VMware's Site Recovery Manager (SRM) solution.
Before following this article, ensure that you have the following in place:
- Pair of vCenter Servers of version 6.7U3 and above
- SRM 8.3
- SRM site pairing is configured
- SRM resource mappings are configured (excluding Storage Policy Mappings)
- Unified Appliance 9.7.1 or above
- ONTAP 9.5 or above
- Peering is configured for storage array clusters and SVMs
This article walks through how to:
- Configure FlexVols and Snapmirror that will be used for vVol Replication
- Configure a new storage capability profile (SCP) on both sites
- Create a vVol datastore at primary site
- Perform cluster rediscovery and snapmirror update (SAN only)
- Create a vVol datastore at secondary site
- Create a new VM Storage Policy on both sites
- Configure a Virtual Machine (VM) and assign to a Replication Group
