SRM Protection group reports Cannot create locator for file because its datastore is not replicated or is not part of the protection group

Issue

  • While creating the RDM LUN Protection group in SRM, discovery fails with the error: "Device not found: Hard disk X".

  • Under VM Protection properties all the hard disks report error "No recovery location specified"

SRM logs report the below error:

2023-04-06T05:16:46.323Z warning vmware-dr[xxxx] [SRM@xxxx sub=StorageProvider opID=430a4873-xxx-492a-xxx-5eef0a0de541-protectVms:5111:73233] [5297f] Cannot create locator for file '[Datastore_name] VM_name/VM_name.vmdk' because its datastore 'datastore-xxx'is not replicated or is not part of the protection group
