Snapdrive for Windows fails to mount a RDM LUN in vSphere 6.5 due to a 1024 path limitation - Failed to Add the virtual Disk through raw device mapping

Issue

Attempts to mount a RDM LUN using Snapdrive for Windows fails, generating an error 

Failed to create disk in virtual machine, Failed to Map virtual disk: The ESX cannot have more than 1024 paths.

Review of the Snapdrive debug logs shows entires similar to the following:

05/08-14:55:46.815    PID:7184    TID:2232    FCPVdisk.cpp@4121        Failed to Add the virtual Disk through raw device mapping, , error code: '0x80004005', error description: 'Failed to Map virtual disk: The ESX cannot have more than 1024 paths'
05/08-14:55:46.815    PID:7184    TID:2232    FCPVdisk.cpp@4123        Failed to create disk in virtual machine, Failed to Map virtual disk: The ESX cannot have more than 1024 paths.
 HRESULT 0xc00403e3.
 
Review of the VirtualizationAPI log shows entries similar to the following:

VirtualizationAPILog Critical: 1 :    05/08-15:02:33.190  PID:9516  TID:8728 @-1  CEsxServer::GetLunInformation()  Name : COMException Message : The ESX cannot have more than 1024 paths Trace :    at VirtualizationAPI.CEsxServer.GetLunInformation(String strLunSerialNo, UInt32 nLunId, String& strDeviceName, String& strLUNuuid, EnumAdapterType eAdapterType, String strInitiatorName)
