SnapMirror fails with volume access error

Issue

  • A volume 17.6 TB in size created on the Element side to be SnapMirrored
  • Output of command snapmirror show on the destination side returns the error:

Last Transfer Error: Transfer failed. (Volume access error (File too large))

  • ONTAP logs show the following error for the initialization transfer of the LUN:

Initialize:<Access_Group> SrcPath:<Path_to_ONTAP_LUN> DstPath:<ONTAP_cluster> Prim=SM:cid=101,mid=1030, handle_baseline_restart:6147, Msg=Failed to restart a partially completed initialize transfer, the destination volume must be recreated.
