Applies to

  • NetApp E-Series
  • NetApp StorageGRID Appliances

Event Summary

  • Santricity reports a impending drive failure, this means that the drive could/should fail soon.
  • The data on the drive is still available to the E-Series system.

Validate

  1. Login to Santricity Storage Manager or Santricity System Manager
  2. Verify from the Hardware page if the disk shows as impending failure
  3. The event log should report one or more of the following errors:
    • Event type: 2285 Description: Impending drive failure detected by drive
    • Event type:101f Description: Summary of impending drive failure detected by controller
    • Event type: 1023 Description: Drive copy triggered by a controller detected impending drive failure

Resolution

  1. Monitor the system and check within several hours drive should fail.
    • If AutoSupport is enabled, this event should create a technical support case once the drive is failed.
  2. Replace the drive once its failed.
  3. It might be required to manually fail the drive if the data copy is not progressing. Only perform this action when instructed by NetApp Technical Support.
  4. If there are multiple drive going into impending failure, do not fail and replace them all at the same time. It is possible the failures may be firmware related.
