How to configure and troubleshoot NTP on clustered Data ONTAP 8.2 and later using CLI
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- Clustered Data ONTAP 8.3
- Clustered Data ONTAP 8.2
Description
Network Time Protocol (NTP) has changed in Data ONTAP 8.2 and later. It is now always enabled and cannot be disabled. It is important that the cluster have the correct date/time set at all times, because job schedules, CIFS authentication, logging, and system processes rely on it.
::> ntp config modify -enabled false Error: command failed: NTP cannot be turned off. NTP is required for time to be synchronized across nodes in the cluster.
If you do not configure an NTP server, each node will use another node as an NTP server to sync time.
