Description

This article describes the procedure to change ownership of disk or partition in ADP and AFF platforms.

In ADP enabled configurations, there are three entities for ownership in clustered Data ONTAP 8.3.x:

  • The container disk (physical)

  • The data partition (large partition, designated as P1)

  • The root partition (small partition, designated as P2)

For systems running ONTAP 9.x and root-data1-data2 partitions (AFF systems only), there are four entities for ownership:

  • The container disk (physical)

  • The data1 partition (large partition 1, designated as P1)

  • The data2 partition (large partition 2, designated as P2)

  • The root partition (small partition, designated as P3)

The container disk and the partitions do not all need to be owned by the same node in the HA pair, as long as they are all owned by one of the nodes in the HA pair.
However, when you use a partition in an aggregate, it must be owned by the same node that owns the aggregate.
