Cloning an virtual disk with the SnapCenter Plug-in causes VMware reconfig error

Issue

When attempting to mount a backup from an VMDK on an NFS or VMFS datastore in SnapCenter GUI, the following error messages appear in the vmcontrol_<JOB>.log of SCV:
 

c.n.a.v.VsphereService                  :A general system error occurred: Could not applyreconfigure/migrate domain changes: Failed to add file policies to domain :53:world ID :0:Cannot allocate memory

c.n.a.v.VirtualMachineService           : [JobId:2547435]ERROR:- Reconfig VM Task failed: Ageneral system error occurred: Could not apply reconfigure/migrate domainchanges: Failed to add file policies to domain :53: world ID :0:Cannot allocate memory

Similar error may be visible from the SnapDriveSALDebug.log of the SCW, when reconfiguring RDMs (pass-through LUNs) during cloning.
