WARNING Installing an incorrect ONTAP image may result in the failure to restore encryption keys. Review the following information carefully to prevent this issue. |
- If you are upgrading ONTAP, or installing the ONTAP image in an existing cluster:
- Refer to this article to determine if a Data At Rest Encryption ONTAP image is installed on the ONTAP cluster
- If Data At Rest Encryption image is installed on the cluster, download the image with NetApp Volume Encryption
- If Data At Rest Encryption is not supported on the cluster, download the image without NetApp Volume Encryption
- If you are installing the ONTAP image onto a new cluster:
- Starting with ONTAP 9.1 and later, Data At Rest Encryption provides data-at-rest encryption that requires authorizations, permits, or licenses to import, export, re-export, or use this software in certain countries (the “Restricted Countries”).
- For example, a state license for importing encryption equipment is required to import ONTAP 9.1 (or later) with Data At Rest Encryption into Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan.
- In certain cases, an end-user customer must have a valid state encryption license to use this software.
