Can we use different VLANs when configuring Management LIFs within ONTAP?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
Answer
Yes, you may use different VLANs when configuring new nodes as long as the SP IP/ Node and Cluster management LIFs are configured on the same subnet.
- Splitting a single IP subnet to stretch over multiple independent VLANs is not supported
- New ONTAP cluster nodes may have management interfaces (node, cluster, SP) on a different subnet and VLAN than the remaining cluster.
- Exception: Cluster Management LIF has to be placed on ports part of the same Broadcast Domain for LIF failover to work
