Link goes down on XL710 Ethernet port when the node boots

  • 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet Controller XL710 QSFP+ (P/N: X1144A or X91440A or X1147A)
  • AFF A700s onboard Ethernet ports

Issue

  • XL710 10G/40G ports experience link down randomly after ONTAP reboots.
  • The sysconfig -a output shows ports as down:

    slot 8: 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet Controller XL710 QSFP+
        e8e MAC Address:    00:a0:98:e8:71:37 (auto-unknown-fd-down)
            QSFP Vendor:         AVAGO           
            QSFP Part Number:    332-00389       
            QSFP Serial Number:  QH0200AZ        
        e8f MAC Address:    00:a0:98:e8:71:38 (auto-10g_sr-fd-up)
            QSFP Vendor:         AVAGO

            QSFP Serial Number:  QH0200AZ        

  • The following messages might be seen in the EMS log complaining about unsupported SFP, but this SFP is supported
[Node-01: kernel: netif.sfpNotSupported:error]: The SFP+ or QSFP+ module (AVAGO332-00389) installed in e8f is not supported with this network interface.
[Node-01: kernel: netif.sfpNotSupported:error]: The SFP+ or QSFP+ module (AVAGO332-00389) installed in e8g is not supported with this network interface.
