Answer

The vscan privileged user credentials are stored in two separate locations:

Connector Utility (mregfa.exe) configuration:
  • The first place where you enter the credentials is in the Connector Utility configuration.
  • (C:\Program Files (x86)\ONTAP AV Connector\mregfa.exe)
  • This utility is responsible for managing the communication between the NetApp storage system and the antivirus software.
  • The credentials entered here are stored within the configuration settings of the Connector Utility.

Windows Service Dialog:
  • The second place where you enter the credentials is in the Windows service dialog for the ONTAP AV Connector service.
  • (service=ONTAP AV Connector).
  • This service runs in the background and is responsible for executing the antivirus scans on the NetApp storage system.
  • The credentials entered here are used by the service to authenticate and access the necessary resources.

The reason for entering the credentials twice is for security purposes and to ensure proper authentication at both the application level (Connector Utility) and the service level (Windows service).
By requiring credentials at both stages, it adds an extra layer of security and helps prevent unauthorized access to the NetApp storage system.
