Unable to access CIFS via DNS Alias due to misconfigured SPN

Issue

  • Clients are unable to access CIFS server using a DNS Alias.
  • Attempting to access share via File Explorer and DNS alias results in following message:

Network Error
Windows cannot access \\DNS_Alias\share_name
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.
Error code: 0x800004005
Unspecified error

  • Event View creates entry for KRB5KRB_AP_ERR_BAD_INTEGRITY.
  • Packet trace(s) show KRB5KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED or KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED from ONTAP in response to Session Setup Request.
