Description

When files are created using Network File System (NFS) on volumes that have the create_ucode option disabled, the directories must be converted to the Unicode format when CIFS users access the directories. For very high file count volumes, this conversion process can impact the performance.

For alternative methods of moving directories to the Unicode format, see BUG 13131: Conversion of large directories to CIFS Unicode format can take a long time

This article describes the procedure for determining whether a volume contains non-Unicode directories, while ensuring that the Unicode conversion is not triggered during the process.
