Applies to

  • NetApp Element software
  • NetApp SolidFire
  • NetApp HCI
  • Element management node (mNode)

Answer

The recommended bandwidth between mNode and the SolidFire storage cluster is 30Mbit/s bandwidth with maximum 1 second latency

Additional Information

To calculate minimum bandwidth required for remote cluster upgrade to work consider following:

  • By default there is a 1800 second timeout when staging RTFI (Return To Factory Image) images from the mNode to the storage nodes
  • RTFI ISO image is approximately 5.3 GB

5.3GB / 1800 sec = 5300MB / 1800 sec = 3 MB/sec = 30Mbit/s

  • In terms of latency there are:
    • 1 sec connection timeouts
    • 3 sec API timeouts
