ONTAP Select: Node Unresponsive Due to ESXi Backend Disk and RAID Controller Failure – NFS Mounts Timeout, Aggregates “Unknown”

Issue

Users were unable to mount an NFS export from ONTAP Select node:

mount.nfs: Connection timed out

  • Node’s root and data aggregates showed as unknown
  • Node was unresponsive to CLI commands
  • SnapMirror replications failed, application performance was degraded, and critical services (such as instant payments) were impacted
  • Cluster logs showed multiple wafl.cp.toolong:error and HAGroupNotification(MULTIPLEDISKSMISSING)ERROR events
  • Attempts to gracefully shut down or failover the node via ONTAP CLI failed due to timeouts
