Applies to

  • MetroCluster IP
  • ONTAP 9
  • Mediator Assisted Unplanned Switchover (MAUSO)

Answer

  • At the time of the switchover, both nodes at one site lost connectivity to their DR and DRAUX partners
Example:

08Jul2024 17:53:16 iscsi_session_stateChanged iscsi_session_state="Reconnecting" iscsi_target="iqn.2016-07.com.netapp:X" iscsi_target_type="dr_partner" iscsi_target_address="1.1.2.3:65200" iscsi_session_state_change_reason="Reason: session login timed out." iscsi_timeout_value="5"

08Jul2024 17:53:16 iscsi_session_stateChanged iscsi_session_state="Reconnecting" iscsi_target="iqn.2016-06.com.netapp:Y" iscsi_target_type="dr_auxiliary" iscsi_target_address="1.1.2.4:65200" iscsi_session_state_change_reason="Reason: session login timed out." iscsi_timeout_value="5"

  • The same nodes also lost access to the Mediator mailbox disks at the same time
Example:

08Jul2024 17:53:21 iscsi_session_stateChanged iscsi_session_state="Reconnecting" iscsi_target="iqn.2012-05.local:mailbox.target.X:1" iscsi_target_type="mailbox" iscsi_target_address="1.2.3.4" iscsi_session_state_change_reason="Reason: socket error 54." iscsi_timeout_value="0"

  • If a MetroCluster IP site loses both of these resources, the nodes will self-halt and the nodes at the other site will trigger a MAUSO
