What is a split brain in a MetroCluster configuration?
Applies to
- MetroCluster
- ONTAP 9
- Data ONTAP 8
Answer
In a MetroCluster configuration, a split-brain occurs when both sites are serving the same data.
For Example:
- ClusterA is running in a normal state serving it's own data.
- ClusterB has performed a Switchover and is serving both it's own data and ClusterA data.
This situation could occur if the communication between sites is lost, then a switchover on disaster is performed from one or both of the sites.
Always ensure that the remote cluster is down before performing a switchover on disaster operation. |
