Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Windows Server 2025
  • Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC)
  • Cluster Shared Volume (CSV)
  • Hyper-V

Issue

  • After actions are taken on WSFC such as rebooting or updating hosts volumes become inaccessible
  • Volumes are in Online (redirected access) or Online pending states
  • Windows event logs show:

Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume1' ('Cluster Dxxx') has identified one or more active filter drivers on this device stack that could interfere with CSV operations. I/O access will be redirected to the storage device over the network through another Cluster node. This may result in degraded performance. Please contact the filter driver vendor to verify interoperability with Cluster Shared Volumes.

Active filter drivers found:

WIMMount (HSM)

  • In Windows Powershell, Get-clustersharedvolumestate shows IncompatibleFileSystemFilter:

BlockRedirectedIOReason      : NotBlockRedirected

FileSystemRedirectedIOReason : IncompatibleFileSystemFilter

Name                         : Cluster_vol1

Node                         : cluster_node1

StateInfo                    : FileSystemRedirected

VolumeFriendlyName           : Volume

  • ONTAP LUNs are online
  • Windows has all expected paths active to LUNs
