Linux Host Recommendations for NVMe/FC protocol support with NetApp MetroCluster IP
Applies to
- NetApp Interop Matrix Tool supported Linux OSs – RHEL, SLES, & Oracle Linux.
- NetApp MetroCluster Solution with NVMe/FC protocol support.
- Negotiated and Unplanned MetroCluster (With Mediator or Tie-Breaker) Site SwitchOver workflows.
- ONTAP 9.12.1 GA and later.
Issue
- During ONTAP MetroCluster IP SwitchOver, an All Paths Down (APD) window is encountered, during which the Primary Cluster site switches over to its Secondary/Peer Cluster site.
- During this APD window, the host/client loses access to all NVMe namespace devices since all paths are down.
- If this APD window exceeds a specified interval, the Linux NVMe/FC host gives up resulting in an I/O error to the overlying applications.
