Linux does not mount filesystems automatically after reboot because .mount unit is masked
Applies to
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (RHEL)
Issue
- After RHEL OS reboot, some file systems are read-only or not mounted at all e.g. root file system, tmp
- The behaviour is protocol independent (local disk, SAN LUN,..)
- Remounting the root file system as read-write is successful
- Filesystem format is XFS
- Affected filesystems have
/etc/fstab
entries - Status of the affected .mount unit via
systemctl status xyz.mount
is masked - sosreport analysis:
$ rg mask sos_commands/systemd/systemctl_list-unit-files
this-isa-mount1.mount masked
this-isa-mount2.mount masked
systemd-timedated.service masked
systemd-timesyncd.service masked
ctrl-alt-del.target masked
fstrim.timer masked
