Issue

  • ESXi host lost active iscsi session during network switch maintenance activity
  • ESXi host reported all paths down(APD)
  • Activity perfomed on one switch, while other switch remained online
  • igroup show -v during the issue time stamp showed the iqn status as not logged in
  • We could see the san initiator login missing notice during issue time stamp, which implies that the iqn is not logged in to any of the lifs

Sun May 12 10:20:16 +0000 [stxx1-02-apxx7: bcomd: san.initiator.login.missing:notice]: Initiator "iqn.1998-01.com.vmxxre:node0xx-apxx7.xx.na-ca-1.cloud.sap:18xx9063x1:x4" is not logged in to any LIFs on this node for Vserver "stnxx1-axxx7-iscsi", portset "-". Access to LUNs might be disrupted if a failover occurs.

  • NetApp lifs (target) does not terminate or block the connection at any given point of time
  • Sessions re-established once the primary switch maintenance activity completed
