License conflict requires removal of S3 license - will removal be disruptive?

Attempts to install an updated license result in a message indicating that the installed S3 license conflicts with the new license package:
The licenses could not be installed because they would conflict with licenses that exist on the system. S3 with Serial Number <SN>. 
Delete these conflicting licenses then try installing the new license.
