Sometimes vscan servers get disconnected when accessing a long-idle share

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • VSCAN
  • cifs option is-smb-encryption-required is set
  • Share properties do not include the encrypt-data

Issue

  • Vscan servers disconnect sporadically
  • Disconnections only occur when the share is idle / unused for an extended period, usually longer than 15 minutes
  • The CIFS server is configured to require SMB encryption
  • EMS / event logs show events such as that below
    Sun Sep 28 21:41:01 -0400 [netapp01: nblade2: Nblade.vscanNoScannerConn:EMERGENCY]: Vserver "svm02" has no virus scanner connection.
