Slow File Transfer from local disk to FlexCache Volume

Issue

  • Users experience severely degraded file copy performance when transferring files from local disk to a FlexCache volume (\\10.1.X.X\svm1).
  • Copying an 83MB file takes 9–10 minutes, whereas copying to a non-FlexCache volume on the same system completes in 1–2 seconds.
Relevant Log Output and Observations:
  • High SMB2 Create latency for files with the extension ':sec.endpointdlp'
  • Packet traces show DLP agent writing Alternate Data Streams (ADS) for every file
  • High volume of sequential SMB2 reads with small I/O sizes, increasing round trips and cumulative latency
  • Performance analysis shows write latencies of 50–150ms, with delays in WAFL_SuspOther, FlexCacheRAL, Spinhi, and CSM layers
