    • The long term solution is to troubleshoot with Oracle or other appropriate database vendor to properly remove locks on shutdown or crash recovery
  • The purpose of this document is to give a very thorough step-by-step procedure for removing NFS locks from a controller following an event that has disrupted the controller/host network or an event that has resulted in an Oracle or other database being shutdown in a strange manner
    • Such as a UNIX host crash or shutdown while the database is still open
  • Events such as these often result in a hung database or a database that cannot be opened because old locks still exist on the controller-stored data files.
  • Symptoms resolved by the following procedure
    • Oracle database does not respond, appears to be hung, and no error messages generated
    • Oracle database does not open and error messages are generated
    • Database does not respond (hung)
    • UNIX host crash or shutdown with the database still open
