Issue

  • Creating a VMDK file larger than 16TB  on a VMware datastore fails with error:

Failed to create virtual disk: The destination file system does not support large files (12).

  • Expanding an existing VMDK capacity over 16TB results:

The capacity exceeds the maximum virtual disk size for the datastore
