Applies to

  • Dynamic Home Directories
  • CIFS

Issue

  • A user trying to map/mount a CIFS share may encounter an error along the lines of no such file or directory
  • The home directory configuration may work for some users but not others
  • The cifs share show output for the home directory share is similar to the following, especially regarding the Path value:
cluster::> cifs share show -vserver SVM1
Vserver        Share         Path              Properties Comment  ACL
-------------- ------------- ----------------- ---------- -------- -----------
SVM1           %w            %u                oplocks    -        Everyone / Full Control
                                               browsable
                                               changenotify
                                               show-previous-versions
                                               homedirectory
  • The following message may be seen in EMS:

Fri Apr 14 00:27:07 CEST [node01: kernel: Nblade_cifsShrConnectFailed_1:error]: params: {'errorDescription': 'No such object', 'vserverName': 'SVM1', 'serverIp': '1.2.3.4', 'vserverId': '12', 'errorCode': '2', 'shareName': '%w', 'clientIp': '5.6.7.8'}

  • The home directory corresponding to the Windows username exists in the search path, but the cifs home-directory show-user command is unable to display the path for the user:

cluster::> cifs home-directory show-user -vserver SVM1 -username user1
