CIFS server create fails with port 445 failed Operation timed out error

Issue

  • CIFS server creation fails with below error :
BLR01::> cifs server create -cifs-server NAS01-domain NAS.local -ou CN=Computers -vserver svm

In order to create an Active Directory machine account for the CIFS server, you must supply the name and password of a Windows account with sufficient
privileges to add computers to the "CN=Computers" container within the "NAS.LOCAL" domain.

Enter the password:

Error: Machine account creation procedure failed
  [ 24056] Loaded the preliminary configuration.
  [ 24095] Created a machine account in the domain
  [ 26109] TCP connection to ip 10.xx.xx.xx, port 445 failed:Operation timed out.
  [ 26115] Unable to connect to LSA service on blr.nas.local (Error:RESULT_ERROR_SPINCLIENT_UNABLE_TO_RESOLVE_SERVER)
  [ 28119] TCP connection to ip 10.xx.xx.xx, port 445 failed:Operation timed out.
  [ 28120] Unable to connect to LSA service onblr.nas.local (Error:RESULT_ERROR_SPINCLIENT_UNABLE_TO_RESOLVE_SERVER)
  [ 30126] TCP connection to ip 100.xx.xx.xx, port 445 failed:Operation timed out.
  [ 30127] Unable to connect to LSA service on blr.nas.local (Error:RESULT_ERROR_SPINCLIENT_UNABLE_TO_RESOLVE_SERVER)
  [ 32129] TCP connection to ip 100.xx.xx.xx, port 445 failed:Operation timed out.
  [ 32130] Unable to connect to LSA service on blr.nas.local (Error:RESULT_ERROR_SPINCLIENT_UNABLE_TO_RESOLVE_SERVER)
**[ 32130] FAILURE: Unable to make a connection (LSA:blr.LOCAL),Result: RESULT_ERROR_SECD_NO_CONNECTIONS_AVAILABLE
**[ 32131] Could not find Windows SID 'S-1-5-XX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-512'
  [ 32137] Deleted existing account 'CN=nas01,CN=Computers,DC=nas,DC=local'

  • Packet traces indicate ONTAP is not getting response from Active directory server over port 445.
