Windows/File Explorer and other SMB applications hanging or timing out when accessing files after CSM session failure (CSM session failure could occur during a cluster switch upgrade)

  • SMB create/open operations can take an unusually long time and then fail/timeout after CSM session failure

  • The behavior may be node-dependent (more frequent when NAS LIFs are hosted on impacted node

  • SMB create calls timeout (STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR seen in packet trace)

  • NFS access is not impacted
