Users accessing the volumes via NFS protocol and LDAP as a source for credential verification may see permission denied on folders that were working before
ems.logs show a lot of 
secd.authsys.lookup.failed
SECD.Logs - show ldap queries lookups succeeding - But this is a false positive : 
LDAP queries may return "LDAP search succeeded with no entries" in ONTAP even when the LDAP server returned a result
Displaying the client users credentials will show incorrect credentials - Leading to the permissions being denied
vserver nfs credentials show
