Long CPs with high CPU utilization on FlexClone volumes

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.8P7 and later
  • ONTAP 9.9.1P13 or lower
  • ONTAP 9.10.1
  • ONTAP 9.11.1P6 or lower
  • Sequential reads performed on FlexClone volumes

Issue

  • Long CPs observed
    • wafl.cp.toolong:error from event log (EMS) if the CP duration exceeds 30 seconds
  • SSAN_Ex or exempt CPU domain has a high utilization
    • Run sysstat -M 1 to monitor the CPU domain util, as illustrated in How to measure CPU utilization
    • SSAN_Ex or Exempt util being greatly higher than WAFL_Ex is a good indicator of abnormally high SSAN_Ex or Exempt CPU util
  • High latnecy observed
