Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Aggregates containing multiple volumes
  • File copy operations from the same client
  • Test files generated using Windows FSUTIL

Issue

  • Two or more volumes located on the same aggregate show significantly different copy times when copying the same file from the same client.
  • The faster copy operation completes in approximately one‑third of the time compared to the slower one.
  • During the copy process:
    • The slower volume shows disk utilization close to 100%.
    • The faster volume shows little to no change in disk utilization.
  • The file used for testing is a virtual file generated by Windows FSUTIL.
