How does QoS policy group associated with a file work?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- Quality of Service (QoS)
Answer
- A QoS policy group associated with a file can be created, modified, and deleted via volume file modify command
- ONTAP will track the inode number of the configured file once
volume file modify
command adds a file to QoS policy groups - When a file is deleted or renamed, the associated QoS policy group will not be deleted immediately:
- Old QoS policy groups will be deleted after about 10 minutes by an asynchronous thread
- If the file is recreated within that timescale (about 10 minutes), the old QoS policy group will be associated with the newly created file again, so the old QoS policy group will not be deleted
