CPU Headroom Metrics and Background Process Activity

 
  • In ONTAP environments, system CPU utilization and reported CPU headroom can be influenced by background storage efficiency and other background processes. Operations such as Temperature-Sensitive Storage Efficiency (TSSE) scanning, FabricPool tiering, and data compression or deduplication consume CPU resources to optimize storage layout.
  • Because CPU headroom reflects overall node CPU availability, active background operations can lower the reported headroom metric—even when client application workloads remain light or steady.

 
  • This is the enhancement request to enable customer to have a better view into the CPU headroom.
