Answer

  • From ONTAP audit logging document, the audit.log file is rotated daily, but it does not fix the time at 24:00 every day, it varies depending on the system.
  • The rotation also occurs when it reaches 100 MB in size, this size-based rotation does not affect the daily rotation schedule.
Example:
 If a size-based rotation occurs at 6:00, the next scheduled daily rotation will still happen at its regular time, not 24 hours after the size-based rotation.
