Answer

  • There are no limitations to the encryption keys from the ONTAP side. However, it's important to note that we do have limitations on the number of volumes that can be created in a node/cluster.
  • The maximum number of volumes is defined by ONTAP version and hardware specifications.
Please check NetApp Hardware Universe to confirm the maximum number of volumes for each environment.

Additional Information

  • If you're using external key manager(EKM), please note that any potential limitations on the keys would likely be imposed by the KeyServer itself. To gain further insights and comprehensive details on any key-related limitations, kindly reach out to the KeyServer support.
  • ONTAP cannot create more than 15,510 encrypted volumes
