Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)

Issue

  • ONTAP does not generate SNMP traps for certain events and hence these traps are not received at the destination server.
  • A manual generation of the same events is not seen under the event notification history show output.

Example:

Test events generated for multiple events, but ic.HAInterconnectLinkDown is not seen in the notification history.

Cluster::> set diag
Cluster::*> event generate -node Node-01 -message-name monitor.volume.nearlyFull -values test,test,test,test,test,test
Cluster::*> event generate -node Node-01 -message-name ic.HAInterconnectLinkDown -values 100,100,100
Cluster::*> event generate -node Node-01 -message-name nis.server.not.available -values TEST

Cluster::*> event notification history show -destination snmp-traphost
Time                Node             Severity      Event
------------------- ---------------- ------------- ---------------------------
4/5/2023 05:42:17   Node-01      ERROR         monitor.volume.nearlyFull: test testtesttest is nearly full (using or reserving test% of space and test% of inodes)
