Description

This article describes the procedure to convert an existing FlexVol into a FlexGroup, distribute its constituents across multiple aggregates for performance and load balancing, and shrink the total capacity back to its original size.

Because a direct FlexVol-to-FlexGroup conversion creates a single-constituent FlexGroup on the residing aggregate, expanding the FlexGroup, moving the new constituent, and resizing the volume is the recommended method to achieve a multi-aggregate layout without permanently increasing the volume's footprint.
