Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.10.1+
  • All Flash FAS (AFF)
  • Automatic volume-level background deduplication / Automatic Deduplication Schedule (ADS)
  • Auto promote after volume got deprioritized from ADS

Answer

  • From ONTAP 9.10.1 onwards, the auto-promote feature helps save more space by tracking changes to data. It checks the inline deduplication savings, and if these savings are 5% or more, a deprioritized volume will be automatically promoted.
  • This check happens each time the volume's data changes by 1% of its size. When a volume is auto-promoted, deduplication is enabled, leading to even more space savings.
  • Ensure you are on a fixed version for BURT #1550521/CONTAP-89683.
