Applies to

  • NetApp FAS8700 systems
  • ONTAP 9.16.1P1

Issue

  • Intermittently, controller failover (takeover) between nodes in an HA pair becomes disabled with “unsynchronized log” errors.
  • The issue is seen on both nodes, typically during heavy, bursty write workloads, and resolves automatically after several minutes.
  • High pause frame rates observed on HA ports (ifstat)
  • No hardware or physical network errors observed
  • Common EMS log output:
cf.fsm.takeoverOfPartnerDisabled:error
monitor.globalStatus.critical:EMERGENCY
nvmm_offline_rmt_nv_internal: Mirror(HA_PARTNER): Abort mirror
mirror.stream.qp.error: NVMM_ERR_IO
Failover monitor: takeover of partner disabled (unsynchronized log)
Controller failover is not possible: unsynchronized log
