Cluster switches not showing new version after switch OS upgrade

Issue
After a switch OS firmware update is completed on the cluster network switches, the system switch ethernet show (ONTAP 9.8 and later) or system cluster-switch show (pre ONTAP 9.8) still reports the previously installed version.
