CONTAP-85001: Unable to login to node via SSH and the message [xinetd.hit.cps.limit:error] is seen in EMS logs.

Issue

  • SSH connections to a cluster node fail post below EMS error:
    [Fri Jan 20 12:54:22 +0000 [node-x: emsgenr: xinetd.hit.cps.limit:error]: Number of incoming network connections exceeded the configured limit of 10 connections per second for the service ssh. This service will be stopped and restarted after 60 seconds.]

  • The following error message is seen in 'messages.log' file
    [Fri Jan 20 2023 12:54:22 +00:00 [daemon:error] 1 2023-01-20T12:54:22.159115+00:00 host1 xinetd 9163 - - Deactivating service ssh due to excessive incoming connections. Restarting in 60 seconds.]

  • Followed by one or both of the following error messages
    [Fri Jan 20 2023 12:54:22 +00:00 [daemon:error] 1 2023-01-20T12:54:22.161270+00:00 host1 xinetd 18173 - - socket bind: Invalid argument (errno = 22)]
    [Fri Jan 20 2023 12:55:22 +00:00 [daemon:error] 1 2023-01-20T12:55:22.597730+00:00 host1 xinetd 9163 - - bind failed (Address already in use (errno = 48)). service = ssh]
