Issue

  • After an ONTAP reboot or upgrade, the node with XL710-based 40 Gigabit Ethernet cluster ports reports Cluster Network Degraded events.

  • Example:
  • [node1: vifmgr: vifmgr.cluscheck.hwerrors:alert]: Port e8a on node node1 is reporting a high number (at least 1 per 1000 packets) of observed hardware errors (CRC, length, alignment, dropped).

  • 40GbE ports (used for cluster or front-end data) are reporting CRC errors in the RECEIVE section of the ifstat command.

  • interface e8a (0 hours, 5 minutes, 31 seconds) --
    RECEIVE
    Total frames: 23634 | Frames/second: 71 | Total bytes: 2019k
    Bytes/second: 6100 | Total errors: 18292 | Errors/minute: 3316
    Total discards: 0 | Discards/minute: 0 | Multi/broadcast: 92
    Non-primary u/c: 0 | CRC errors: 16978 | Runt frames: 0

  • The 40GbE port link might be flapping or might subsequently go down.
