Issue

  • When upgrading ONTAP to 9.19.1 or later on FAS2820 systems with an X1169A card in slot 1, the card is updated to bundled Ethernet firmware 26.47.1026.
  • Ethernet firmware 26.47.1026 swaps which physical connector each logical Ethernet port (e1a and e1b) uses.
  • The logical port names and MAC addresses don't change. However, each logical port becomes linked to the opposite physical connector. As a result, a connected port can show as down, or its link can appear under the other port's name.

One or more of these symptoms can occur after the firmware update:
  • A cable plugged into the physical connector for e1a brings up a link on logical port e1b instead, or the reverse.

  • The expected logical port stays down and can report {}no carrier (Negotiation failure){}.

  • If the logical port now linked to the connected physical connector is administratively disabled, the connection can't establish a link.

  • Compared with data collected before the update, adapter information shows each transceiver's serial number under the opposite logical port.
