Issue

  • After upgrading the source cluster to ONTAP 9.17.1 and later, SnapMirror transfers to destination clusters running ONTAP 9.16.1 (or earlier) fail.
  • snapmirror_audit.log

status=Failure message=Failed to start transfer for snapshot "xxxxxx".(Failed to start transfer.(Destination not supported(Operation not supported)))
  • snapmirror_error.log / sktrace.log
    Public directory index is not supported on destination's ONTAP version

  • SVM migration validation failed with the error below:

::> vserver migrate start -vserver XXX -source-cluster XXX -check-only true
Error: command failed: Migrate operation on the vserver "XXX" is not supported because one or more volumes in the vserver has directory index
transfer enabled. Contact technical support for assistance.
